July 26, 2019

Stowers Institute and FlyBase have published remembrances of Susan Abmayr, PhD, who died on July 18, 2019. The [remembrance at Stowers Institute](https://www.stowers.org/in-memory-susan-abmayr) recalls that "Susan’s contributions to the fields of transcription and myogenesis, and to the scientific community at large are numerous" and states that "with over 70 scientific publications, Susan was not only a productive scientist and principal investigator, but also a great mentor and advisor. ... Susan was instrumental in establishing and maintaining a program to train graduate students from the University of Kansas School of Medicine at our Institute, and her role in guiding and advising graduate students will be sorely missed by our entire community." The [*in memoriam* at FlyBase](http://flybase.net/commentaries/2019_07/AbmayrMemoriam.html) adds that "for over 20 years, her laboratory at Penn State and later at the Stowers Institute focused on uncovering additional mechanisms that govern myoblast differentiation and fusion in the generation of muscle fibers."
