# Flies Continue to Contribute to Gene Identification for Previously Undiagnosed Cases

July 28, 2018

*Drosophila* research has again contributed to uncovering the genetic cause for a rare disease. Work from the [Undiagnosed Diseases Network (UDN) Model Organism Screening Center](https://undiagnosed.hms.harvard.edu/research/model-organisms/), which is led by fly biologist Hugo Bellen at Balyor College of Medicine, was recently published a study in the *American Journal of Human Genetics:* Marcogliese et al. "[IRF2BPL Is Associated with Neurological Phenotypes](https://www.cell.com/ajhg/fulltext/S0002-9297(18)30233-7).". [Baylor College of Medicine](https://www.bcm.edu/news/molecular-and-human-genetics/neurological-disorder-linked-gene-mutations) published an announcement in July 26, 2018. Additional coverage appears from [Texas Children's Hospital](https://nri.texaschildrens.org/synopsis/fruit-flies-help-uncover-role-irf2bpl-new-rare-neurological-disorder).
