New England Journal of Medicine article highlights impact of Drosophila research on genetic disease diagnosis
An article by Kimberly Splinter and colleagues from the Undiagnosed Diseases Network (UDN) appearing in the New England Journal of Medicine includes a discussion the impact of the Model Organisms Screening Center, which uses Drosophila and other model organisms, in contributing to disease diagnosis. Through the UDN MOSC, biologists and physicians are teaming up to leverage the information-rich literature and wide array of genetic tools available for model organisms research to help identify disease-causing variants in patients enrolled in the UDN program. Free access to the article is available at the NEJM website.
