# Post-doc wanted for exciting project into central nervous system regeneration and repair in Drosophila

 ***From the Hildalgo lab:***

A post-doctoral scientist is sought to investigate the molecular mechanisms of central nervous system regeneration and repair, using the fruit-fly Drosophila as a model organism. We have recently discovered genes that can promote formation and elimination of cells, circuits and synapses during development. Understanding this system could help drive regeneration and repair following nervous system damage or disease. The powerful genetics of Drosophila combined with molecular biology will be used to work out molecular mechanisms; biochemistry, cryo-EM and super-resolution microscopy, to identify molecular interactions for different cellular contexts; microscopy, imaging and opto-genetics to visualise neurons and glia in vivo, in action and in time-lapse; and behaviour to test for functional recovery.

Candidates should have a PhD or equivalent research experience in Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Neuroscience or related disciplines. Experience working with Drosophila, molecular biology and/or microscopy would be beneficial.

This is a 3-year project, based in the laboratory of Dr Alicia Hidalgo, at the University of Birmingham, and to be carried out in collaboration with Prof. Nick J. Gay, Department of Biochemistry, University of Cambridge. The successful candidate will be based in Birmingham and spend shorter periods in Cambridge to carry out experiments there.

Our labs and Universities are both very international environments, and applicants from all over the world, with English language skills, are welcome.
